He has published critiques of the Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures detailing their inconsistency with scientific knowledge and professional practice. He serves on revision committee of the Principles for the Validation and Use of Personnel Selection Procedures, a set of professional guidelines published by the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
 
In recognition of his expertise in personnel selection, Dr. McDaniel
was elected a Fellow in the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, the American Psychological Association, and Association for Psychological Science.
